The International Federation of Psychoanalysis condemns Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, as well as any military action, regardless of where it occurs. All of our specialists who are currently in Kiev are particularly affected by the horrors of this war. Specialists located in various Ukrainian cities and beyond its borders are also profoundly impacted. We also condemn the heightened hostility and aggression in the media, social media, and interpersonal relationships. Aggression on social networks is also a form of warfare. We urge all colleagues to work together to aid Ukraine and Ukrainians. We believe that only the specialists of the International Federation of Psychoanalysis have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide qualified psychological assistance in such circumstances.
A group of specialists from the Ukrainian Association of Psychoanalysis, which is a branch of the IFP, completed a crisis management training course in 2008 under the direction of Israeli colleagues. In 2015, the Ukrainian Association of Psychoanalysis and the All-Ukrainian public organization “League of Social Workers of Ukraine” implemented the project “Organization of the provision of socio-psychological assistance to children and their families displaced to the regions of Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territory and areas of the anti-terrorist operation”. Within the scope of the project, 26 national trainers (proportional to the number of regions of Ukraine) and 537 social workers were trained. Now, the Association has also established a training group for crisis response specialists (you can watch the broadcast of lectures on our YouTube channel).
Specialists from the International Federation of Psychoanalysis provide Ukrainians with pro bono assistance. In Germany, Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Austria, France, Croatia, and Italy, separate volunteer groups are active. To join this endeavour, please call (Viber, WhatsApp): +38 067 477 77 09
