For your viewing and discussion in our Psychoanalytic Film Club, we offer you a film that was included in the top twenty films of Ukraine and won the 2019 Venice Film Festival in the Horizons programme. This film is a dystopian film directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych called Atlantis.
Atlantis was filmed in January-March 2018 in Mariupol, recreating the events of 2025, “one year after the war”. Ukraine has won the war with Russia, but has returned Donbas as a place of military, economic and environmental disaster. The film’s characters are played by non-professional actors: veterans, paramedics, volunteers, and soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The film’s director Valentyn Vasyanovych, psychoanalysts from Ukraine and France Svitlana Uvarova, Michel Benaim, Vladimir Brody and Maxim Piskunov will be involved in the discussion.
Svitlana Uvarova is a psychoanalyst, Doctor of Philosophy, HDR in psychoanalysis and crisis psychology, founder, rector and honorary professor of the International Institute of Depth Psychology (Kyiv, Ukraine), President of the Ukrainian Association of Psychoanalysis (Kyiv, Ukraine) and the International Federation of Psychoanalysis (Strasbourg, France), member of the Board, training analyst, supervisor of the UAP and ECPD (Vienna, Austria), member of the World Council for Psychotherapy (Vienna, Austria); editor-in-chief of the publishing house of the private higher education institution “MIGP”.
Michelle Benaim is a psychoanalyst, lecturer in clinical psychopathology at the University of Aix-Marseille (AMU), curator of the Master’s degree in Psychoanalysis, head of adolescence research at the Laboratory of Clinical Psychopathology, Language and Subjectivity, of which she is deputy director, and clinical psychologist at several institutions in Marseille working with adolescents.
Vladimir Broda is a psychoanalyst, doctoral candidate in psychopathology and psychoanalysis at the University of Paris City, and a lecturer in art and film history at EICAR Paris (International School of Film and Television).
Maksym Piskunov is a lecturer at the International Institute of Depth Psychology, a member of the Ukrainian Association of Psychoanalysis, and a specialist in UAP.
