On the basis of clinical cases, the lecturer examines a situation in which subjectivity and death are at odds. Through them, the author attempts to illustrate the resignation that follows certain experiences in which patients confronted their subjective vulnerability in the face of death.
The psychoanalyst also recommends considering the frame: the processes of constructing the analytic object, the possibility of having a “inner frame,” even if the therapy is conducted in adverse conditions that do not contribute to the establishment of intimacy and regularity of meetings between the patient and the analyst, outside the consultation room or in the conditions of an online session, when physical absence.
Faced with these conditions, which may represent the limits of analyzability, the lecturer asserts that it is necessary to appeal to the analysand’s capacity to “dream / fantasise” the unconscious in order to assist him / her in processing what the trauma unleashes: the absence of representations, which destroys the mental tissue, and the presence of representations of emptiness, which floods the psyche with catastrophic or nirvana-like experiences.
This task is especially challenging for the analyst’s psyche, as it necessitates the activation of the analyst’s drives and his denial capacity (Verleugnung) in order to maintain the drive, and thus, life.
